Build a Two-Drawer Peg-Leg Stand

This class will use cherry lumber to construct a small Shaker-inspired stand with delicate details. The stand’s features can challenge a more experienced woodworker, while still being accessible to someone just starting in the craft. Participants will work individually on their machine and hand-tool skills to create the various components, then will work collectively on the last day to assemble the stands.

The finished stand is approximately 22” long by 16” deep by 24” tall.

This is an excellent class for a beginning or intermediate woodworker. We’ll be using the lathe to turn the pedestal, legs and knobs. The majority of the remainder of the time will be spent at the workbench with hand-tools, first making the dovetailed drawers and top, and later to assemble the piece.

As it is with Shaker furniture, the surfaces are clean of ornamentation and extra detailing. The beauty of the piece lies in the form and the skillfulness that goes into making it. The challenge, and the fun, will be in striving to craft the small details in pleasing ways. And that’s where we’ll spend a majority of our time and energy during the class.

Attendees can bring their own materials. Or we can provide the prepared materials for $85.

A fully catered lunch is included and served every day and drinks and snacks are provided all day. Please let us know in advance of any special dietary needs. It is a good idea to make your lodging reservations well in advance (options follow below).
